Flo + Asthma

  • Improved engagement with specialist services
Thanks to everyone who attended the second Scottish Flo Network Event on Tuesday 27th September 2016 in Hamilton hosted by NHS Lanarkshire.

Despite the weather over 100 delegates from across Scotland were inspired with presentations from Dr Sam Patel (Respiratory Consultant, NHS Lanarkshire), Dr Margaret Whoriskey (Head of Telehealth and Telecare Technology Enabled Care), Phil O'Connell (Chairman, Simple Shared Healthcare) and Dr Michael Ross and Chris Wright (Beating the Blues/Mastermind).

Clinicians from NHS Highland, NHS Lothian and NHS Lanarkshire shared their use of Flo for pain management, asthma, weight management, smoking cessation, paediatric diabetes and a primary care perspective.

Patient Margaret came along on the day and emphasised how easy she found Flo to use and how Flo had helped Margaret to monitor her own blood pressure at home increasing Margaret’s engagement and saving her taking time from work.

All the presentations were fantastic so special thanks to all. Lots of messages were generated in response to a challenge set for the audience to develop messages to support the Scotland wide "Weigh to Go" programme -loads of innovative suggestions were captured which will be inputted into the protocol designed to support patients to engage with their weight loss goals - thanks again! The winners collected goodie bags including some NHS Lanarkshire treats, sorry- not very "Weigh to Go "friendly!

Craig Cunningham (NHS Lanarkshire Head of Commissioning, Performance and Planning) introduced the afternoon session with the launch of NHS Lanarkshire’s new animated video featuring "Fraser" using technology to improve his health and lifestyle. This is the start of a journey for Fraser - watch this space as Euan Duguid (Communication Manager, NHS Lanarkshire) warned us!    Click on Fraser  below to watch the first instalment!
Delivering the healthcare revolution; Fraser’s story.

We also welcomed colleagues from NHS Ayrshire and Arran, West Dunbartonshire Council and NHS Tayside to the Simple Telehealth Community so watch this space, I am sure they will be sharing their outcomes at next years event.

Overall delegates gave overwhelmingly positive feedback, enthusiastic participation, ideas and experiences were exchanged and new links made throughout the day - Networking was the key, with plenty of opportunities to discuss outcomes, ideas and opportunities for collaboration across Scotland.

Michelle Brogan (TEC Programme Lead, NHS24) closed the day by reminding us of the challenges and the great progress being demonstrated throughout Scotland!
